THE START
Brooksite’s story began in 2001 with an unusual opportunity. Two New York–based investors approached us to develop a business plan—not for a typical venture, but for a fish farming enterprise in Puerto Rico.

The assignment demanded far more than traditional financial modeling. We immersed ourselves in the science and economics of aquaculture, working to understand both the biological complexities and commercial viability of offshore fish farming. The goal was clear: produce a comprehensive business plan that could secure a $1 million government grant.

At the heart of the plan was a detailed operational and financial roadmap, designed to clearly articulate the risks, rewards, and long-term sustainability of the project to the Puerto Rican government. After months of rigorous research, collaboration, and refinement, we delivered a 50-page plan that successfully earned the grant.

That plan came to life in May 2002, when Snapperfarm, Inc. launched Puerto Rico’s first offshore aquaculture operation. By August, the company had stocked two Ocean Spar Sea Station cages with 20,000 juvenile red snapper in the waters off Culebra—marking a pioneering moment in the region’s aquaculture industry.
In 2003, Snapperfarm once again engaged us—this time to build the financial backbone of the organization. We designed and implemented robust financial operations, internal controls, and accounting processes to ensure compliance with grant requirements. As part of this effort, we deployed Oracle NetSuite, a secure, cloud-based accounting platform that provided the flexibility and scalability the business required.

Our early adoption of cloud-based accounting solutions became a defining part of our firm’s approach. Since 2004, 95% of our clients have transitioned to cloud-based systems, with many small businesses choosing QuickBooks Online. The driving force behind this shift has been clear: significant cost savings through reduced staffing needs, elimination of on-site server infrastructure, and seamless software updates.
